Gifted children are high performing children in fields such as thinking, creativeness, artistic, leadership ability, or other specific areas of academic life.
These children often require additional services or tasks, not normally supplied by the school, in order to mature these skills to the best of their ability.
Parents are usually interested to establish if their child is gifted. Some traits are very common in gifted kids, however, every child is different and not all gifted children share all these attributes.

IQ tests can be helpful for parents to determining if their child is gifted, however, experts strongly suggest that kids should not be tested until the age of five and ideally before the age of nine, as the data may not be fully accurate. Understanding if your child is talented can help you better realize if the school offers a proper educational background. It can also help you to better comprehend your child and offer him a more challenging academic environment.
The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights estimates that six percent of public school students are involved in gifted and talented programs. Tests are often used as a way to evaluate a student's performance to qualify for a particular program or when it is believed that a student's gifts and talents are not identified. School-age children are commonly screened for skills and talents using group testing methods through their school's talent screening program.
